The self-guided tour does begin with a 12 minute video on the immigrant journey and the settling of the town of Fredericksburg. This place is perfect for kids and students as it is informative and sort of interactive. Better yet there are items in the houses not usually seen (waffle maker, kitchen appliances, nit-naks) so I saw things I have never viewed before. Items on the tables, kitchens, etc, are just lying around and while you are not supposed to touch anything, you could if you wanted to and that immediacy feels authentic. Rather when you enter if feels as if you truly walked into a structure recently vacated by the owners. The items in the buildings are not behind glass or blocked-off from view. Our pasture raised meat is harvested, cut and packaged in a USDA inspected facility so its ready to be enjoyed with your friends & family. We offer pasture raised sheep and goat meat, local seasonal produce and other farm products. What is special about the structures is how ‘lived in’ they feel. We are a small family farm in Fredericksburg, Texas. The collection of buildings is not large (you need about an hour here) but each building has a recorded audio from a former inhabitant that tells you about the structure you are in. I have visited many museums like this but this one was particularly good. The museum with its collection of old buildings provides visitors an opportunity to walk through, and around these old original structures. Fredericksburg is one of those places they settled. In the mid1800’s the United States saw a lot of immigration from Germany.
